Importing European food into the UK

Swara has gone from running a local convenience store to being a major wholesaler in the UK. 20 years after the big migration from Eastern Europe to the UK started, Swara is now an exclusive distributor for several well-known Czech and Slovak brands. Thanks to TIMOCOM, Anish and Minal have been able to establish many good relationships to hauliers going between the UK and Eastern Europe.

“I think TIMOCOM is the best platform for logistics. Within minutes after posting a load, there are a lot of transporters willing to do the job at competitive rates”, Anish Shah says.

When 10 new states joined the EU in 2004, thousands of workers from Eastern Europe settled in the UK. This meant an increased need to find traditional products from their home countries. Anish directly saw the potential of importing products from Eastern Europe, given the sudden influx of foreign workers. As soon as Swara’s first delivery arrived from Slovakia, the Slovak community in London directly started buying their traditional food from Swara.

Navigating post-Brexit challenges

In 2021, as soon as Brexit happened, our regular Slovak transporter stopped sending trucks to the UK, due to the additional paperwork involved. At this point, they were stuck and looking for a new logistic solution. Anish shares below his journey with TIMOCOM during that time:

'I signed up with TIMOCOM for an initial 6-month trial period. I posted our first job on TIMOCOM and already within a few hours received 6 replies from transporters willing to take our job. We have continued to work with your marketplace since 2021 and to us it is a necessary tool in our business. I think that TIMOCOM is the best logistics platform out there'.

“The TIMOCOM Road Freight Marketplace therefore fits us perfectly, as it saves a lot of time and money”, Anish says.

On TIMOCOM, Swara Trading expands their network of hauliers

When hauliers cannot do deliveries as planned, Swara quickly finds alternative hauliers on Europe’s leading marketplace for logistics. After Brexit, Swara has also found solutions for customs clearance on TIMOMCOM.
