The Netherlands is a key logistics hub in Europe, with a dense network of highways and major transport corridors connecting to Germany, Belgium, and beyond. Although, there is no general driving ban in the Netherlands, the Dutch government enforces several truck bans that impact transport operations.
The following regulations apply to special transports:
- During morning rush hour from 7:00 AM (from 6:00 AM in the western part of the country) until 10:00 AM.
- During evening rush hour from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (until 8:00 PM in the western part of the country).
- On Saturdays from 9:00 AM until Sunday at midnight (exceptions may apply).
Additionally, driving bans apply on Saturdays from 9:00 AM until Sunday at midnight in cases of icy road conditions or visibility below 200 meters.

When are specifics trucks not allowed to drive?
Trucks that are longer than 22 meters, wider than 3 meters, or heavier than 60 tons (60,000 kilograms) require prior permission from the Service Bureau for Exemptions. This also applies to trucks with more than 5 axles. More information on applying for these exemptions can be found on the RDW website.
These exceptional/special trucks are not allowed to drive during specific times. Please refer to the above regulations (the paragraph) for special transports.
